Job Title:        Bilingual/ESL Aide

 Primary Purpose:

Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom activities. This position is funded with federal grant funds and employment is contingent upon Notice of Grant Award.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED

Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Secondary and Elementary Education Act.

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Possess dual language skills

Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Physical ability to move about in the classroom to monitor and supervise students

Learn pertinent procedures and functions quickly and apply them

Understand and carry out oral and written directions

Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those encountered in the course of work

 

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  2. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  3. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  4. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports to track, monitor and communicate students progress and academic performance with parents and other school or district staff.
  5. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  6. Guide students independent study, enrichment work, remedial help, and follow-up work as specified by the teacher.
  7. Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy.
  8. Maintain a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel.

Student Management

  1. Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

  1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  2. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned as it relates to the purpose and intent of the federally funded program
  3. Perform other duties as assigned as it relates to the purpose and intent of the federally funded program.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
