Job Title:         Physical Education Aide

 

Reports To:     Principal and Teacher(s) Assigned

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Wage/Hour Status:   Nonexempt

Pay Grade:                 C/P 1

 Primary Purpose:

Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED

Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the No Child Left Behind Act

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Physical ability to move about in the classroom/gym to monitor and supervise students

Learn pertinent procedures and functions quickly and apply them

Understand and carry out oral and written directions

Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those encountered in the course of work

 Knowledge of basic first aid  procedures

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  2. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  3. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  4. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom/gym.
  5. Monitor students during exercise to ensure proper execution and safety of student as directed by the teacher.
  6. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  7. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  8. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  9. Guide independent study, enrichment work, remedial help, and follow-up work as specified by the 
  10. Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy.
  11. Maintain a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel.

Student Management

  1. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, student holding areas, drop-off and pick-up areas, and playground duty.
  2. Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

  1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  2. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
